How to Set a Cell Phone Password

by Col Forbin

In this day and age of hackers, scammers and identity thieves, securing every piece of personal information is vital. Cellphones are increasingly used for sharing and storing sensitive information, thus becoming an easy target for hacking and theft. Setting a password on your cellular phone is one way to keep malicious attacks at bay. Going through your phone options and setting a password takes only a minute, so there is no reason not to take advantage of this security option.

Turn on your cellphone.

Open the phone's menu and search for security options. Select security options.

Look for an option to set a password. Open the password selection option and type a password in. Do not use the last four digits of your cellphone number, consecutive digits or any other simple or typical password.

Update any other password settings, such as how long until the phone locks during idle and how many password attempts are allowed.

Save and exit the password and security screens.
