How to Clean Up a Dell Registry

by Jennifer Moore

The Dell registry is complex, as it involves many processes that continually work to make your computer function normally and carry out simple or complex commands you give it. When it is not functioning correctly, abnormalities like slowdowns, error messages or large numbers of pop-up ads appear. You can keep this from happening by cleaning the registry every once in a while.

Download and save a reliable registry-cleaning software program. Good examples of this type of software are RegCure, Registry Fix or Error Doctor.

Click twice on the program icon to start the installation process. Follow the on-screen prompts until the installation finishes. This should only take a few minutes, as this type of program is relatively small.

Go to "Start" and "Programs" and locate the new registry cleaner. Click the icon twice to open.

Select the "Scan" or "Start" button. This is dependent on the registry cleaner you decided to use. The registry scanner will review the Windows registry and generate a list of errors. It will allow you to manually fix whichever invalid entries you want to or choose "Fix All" to automatically fix all registry entries.

Restart the computer and use normally.
