How to Install a Respondus LockDown Browser

by Faizah Imani

The Respondus LockDown Browser is a tool that many institutions use when administering tests to students. The browser has the look and feel of a regular browser. However, most of the browser functions are disabled or “locked down.” When using the Respondus LockDown Browser, a student is unable to copy, print, close the test or access other applications until her test has been submitted for grading. The browser requires student installation and can be used at the actual testing center or from the student's own computer.

Open your Internet Explorer browser. Type the URL (website address) for the Respondus LockDown Browser into the address bar. Each institution is assigned a unique download URL. If you don't know the URL, inquire with your testing center's system administrator.

Click “Run” to download and install the browser to your computer. When the installation is complete, an installation wizard will appear.

Click “Next.” Read through and accept the terms of agreement. Click “Next” twice.

Click “Install” to complete the installation. When installation is complete, click “Finish.”
