How to Convert Biz Files to Microsoft Word

by Adam Cloe Ph.D./M.D.

Biz files are created by different Broderbund programs, most commonly Broderbund's Printmaster Gold. Printmaster Gold can be used to create business cards, which will be saved in the Biz format. However, some people may be more comfortable editing their card in Word, which will require conversion to Word. To keep the formatting, the Biz file will need to first be converted to a PDF and then converted from a PDF into Microsoft Word.

Open Printmaster Gold by either double-clicking on the shortcut or by going to the "Start" menu and selecting the program.

Open your Biz file by clicking on the "File" menu, selecting "Open" and then, in the ensuing menu, selecting your biz file.

Go to the "File" menu again and select "Export to PDF." In the window that appears, select where you would like the file to be saved and what you would like its name to be. When in doubt, save to the desktop.

Download a PDF-to-Word converter (see Resources).

Open the program by clicking on its icon or via the "Start" menu at the bottom left of the screen.

Click the "Browse" button in the upper left of the screen. In the pop-up window that appears, select the PDF file you made from your Biz file.

Select the options you want to use by checking the box next to each desired option in the "General Options" window.

Click the "Convert to Word" button.
