How to Watch Videos on the Wii (17 Steps)
By Will Conley
You can watch videos on the Wii if you have Internet access. Connecting a Wii to the Internet is a simple process. After setting that up, you can stream videos in two easy ways. The first involves downloading the Opera browser for the Wii. The second involves associating an existing Netflix account with the Wii. You can use both methods if you wish, and neither one costs any money beyond the normal Netflix pricing plan.
Connect the Wii to the Internet
Step 1
Turn on the Wii and press "A" on the Wii remote to pull up the Wii menu.
Step 2
Point the Wii remote selector at the "Wii" button at lower-left and click it.
Step 3
Click "Wii Settings," arrow right one page and select "Internet."
Step 4
Select "Connection Settings," "Connection 1: None" and "Wireless Connection."
Step 5
Click "Search for Access Point" and then "OK." Select a recognized access point and enter the password if necessary, then click "OK."
Step 6
Click "Yes" and then "I Accept" to update the Wii to the latest software. Wait for the update to download, then click "OK" to return to the Wii menu.
Watching Videos on the Wii Internet Channel
Step 1
Download the Wii Internet Channel. From the Wii menu, use the Wii remote to select "Wii Shop Channel" then "Start Shopping."
Step 2
Click "Wii Channels" and select "Internet Channel" to finish downloading the Internet browser to the Wii. It appears in the Wii menu.
Step 3
Click "Internet Channel" in the Wii menu.
Step 4
Navigate the Wii Internet Channel browser to any website that contains embedded videos. Use the Wii remote or a connected USB keyboard to enter a URL such as "youtube.com" or "vimeo.com". You do not need to enter "http://".
Step 5
Use the Wii remote to navigate to any embedded video and select the "Play" button. The video will begin playback on the Wii.
Watching Videos on the Wii Netflix Channel
Step 1
Download the "Netflix Instant Streaming for Wii" channel. From the Wii menu, use the Wii remote to select "Wii Shop Channel" then "Start Shopping."
Step 2
Click "Wii Channels" and select "Netflix Instant Streaming for Wii" to finish downloading the Netflix application to the Wii. It appears in the Wii menu.
Step 3
Click "Netflix Instant Streaming for Wii" in the Wii menu. A code is displayed. Write the code down.
Step 4
Go to "netflix.com/Wii" on a computer (not on the Wii) and sign in to your Netflix account. Enter the code you wrote down in Step 3, then select "Activate Now."
Step 5
Leave both the Wii and the computer alone until your Netflix queue shows up on the Wii.
Step 6
Click "Netflix Instant Streaming for Wii" anytime from the Wii menu to select and watch streaming Netflix videos as you would on a computer.
