How to Update My CD/DVD Drive

by Nick Miles

CD/DVD drives allow your computer to read discs and install programs. To keep your disc drive functional, you must download the latest drivers. If new drivers are released and you do not have them, you may not be able to read certain discs, rendering your DVD drive useless. Updating your drivers will restore functionality and keep your drive working.

Click the "Start" button on your computer, right-click "Computer" and select "Properties."

Click on the "Hardware" tab in the Properties window and select "Device Manager."

Expand the list of DVD/CD-ROM drives to display your disc drive.

Right-click your disc drive and select "Update Drivers." Your computer will check the device's current drivers and search for new ones, if available. If new drivers are available, your system will automatically download and install them.

Restart your computer for the updated drivers to take effect.
