How to Zip PNG Files
By Mitchell White
PNG is an image format that stands for "Portable Network Graphics." It's often used in place of GIF since the GIF image format has a patent on it. PNG is free of any license or patent. If you have a picture on your computer in the PNG format that you wish to compress, you can do so using the built-in controls in the Windows operating system.
Step 1
Click "Start" in Windows and select "My Computer." Open the folder where the PNG picture file is currently stored.
Step 2
Right-click on the PNG file and a set of options will appear.
Step 3
Select the "Send to" option. A new drop-down menu opens.
Step 4
Select the "compressed (zipped) folder" option. The PNG file appears in the new zipped folder. This folder appears in the same place the PNG file was originally.
