How to Use Trillian With Facebook
By Matt Koble
Facebook chat is an invaluable tool for keeping in touch with Facebook friends. If you want to chat with those friends without having Facebook open in your Web browser, Trillian provides a solution. One of the benefits of this instant messaging program is that it can connect to many other non-Trillian accounts, including Facebook. Once you've integrated Facebook into Trillian, you'll be able to chat with online Facebook friends and view certain aspects of Facebook through the program.
Click the "Trillian" drop-down menu and select "Manage Accounts." Ensure you're on the "Accounts" tab.
Click the "Add New Account" button and select "Facebook." Enter your first and last name into the "Name" text box and click the "Connect" button.
Enter your Facebook login information in the confirmation window. Click the "Log In" button. Click the "Okay" button through the Trillian windows asking for access to various aspects of your Facebook account.
Click "Facebook" under the Social section of Trillian's main window to display a popup window showing your Facebook news feed, events, groups and requests.
Navigate to The Contacts section of Trillian's main window. Right-click a friend under the "Facebook" subsection and click "Send Message" to open a chat window with your friend.
- When Trillian asks for the ability to post to Facebook on your behalf, use the Facebook privacy selector to select "Only Me" if you don't want Trillian to bug your friends, but you still want to use Facebook through the program.
