How to Use a Micro SD Card on Sony Vaio D

by Andrew Tennyson

MicroSD memory card slots are commonly found on smartphones, tablets and other portable devices, but this option is not found on Sony Vaio laptops. You can still use a microSD memory card with your Vaio, but you will need to utilize an external memory-card reader. These components come in various shapes and sizes; some connect to a computer via a standard USB port, and others are shaped like the larger Secure Digital memory cards. Only use the latter adapter if your Vaio laptop has a standard SD memory card slot.

1

Connect the microSD memory-card reader to your Sony Vaio computer.

2

Insert the microSD memory card into the reader. An autoplay dialog will appear, acknowledging the presence of the microSD card.

3

Click “Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer” in the dialog window.

4

Copy and paste or drag and drop files into or out of the folders on your microSD card as you would do on any other removable storage device.

5

Right-click on the microSD card under the "Devices with Removable Storage" heading in Windows Explorer, and then click “Eject” or “Safely Remove.”

6

Disconnect your memory-card reader and remove the microSD card.

Tip

  • If an autoplay dialog does not launch when you insert the card, click Start and “Computer” to open Windows Explorer. Double-click the microSD card on the list of available removable storage devices, then continue with the remaining steps.
