How to Use Headphones Without the Sound on Laptop Speakers
By Greyson Ferguson
The entire point of using headphones on a laptop computer is so the audio does not play out of the built in speakers. If the audio does play out of the laptop speakers it completely defeats the purpose of wearing the headphones. However, the process to cut off the laptop speakers only takes a few seconds to complete and is a rather straight forward task.
Insert the 3.5mm cable running out of the headphones into the "Line-In" port on the laptop. Make sure the cable is inserted completely into the port. If the cable is only inserted half-way the audio plays through both the laptop speakers and the headphones.
Double-click the audio icon in the lower right corner of the desktop to load the audio information.
Deselect the mute option on all the settings. Occasionally when a pair of headphones is detected the audio is disabled from the computer. However this mutes the headphones, preventing any audio from playing.
Slide the volume levels up and down to adjust the amount of audio heard with the headphones.
