How to Use Google As a Free Proxy

by James Carter

A proxy is a device or service that acts as an intermediary between your computer and the Internet. By connecting through a proxy you can visit websites blocked by your school or workplace firewalls. You can use Google's translate feature as a free proxy by translating a website from English to English. This tricks your network firewall into thinking that you visited Google instead of the blocked site.

Open your favorite Internet browser from the desktop.

Type "" into the address bar and press "Enter" to confirm that Google is not blocked on your network. You must have access to Google to use it as a free proxy.

Type ";=da&tl;=en&u;=," substituting "" with the website you wish to visit. As long as the "Google translate" frame remains at the top of your browser, your firewall thinks you are searching Google.
