How to Use Downloaded Powerpoint Templates
By Shawn McClain
One of the fastest ways to build a good-looking Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 presentation is to use templates, which are collections of backgrounds, fonts, layouts and styles that give the presentation's slides a cohesive appearance. PowerPoint comes with a good number of installed templates, and the program has access to online templates from the Office website as well. However, if you've downloaded a template from a third party, the procedure for opening that template in PowerPoint isn't very obvious.
Step 1
Open the Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 software. A blank presentation will appear on the screen.
Step 2
Click the "File" tab at the top of the PowerPoint window. Click "New" from the list of options on the left side of the window.
Step 3
Double-click on the "New from existing" icon, which is located in the top section under the "Available Templates and Themes" area.
Step 4
Navigate to the folder on your hard drive that contains the downloaded PowerPoint template. Click your desired template and click "Create New." The PowerPoint template, along with any pre-set slides in the template, appears on your presentation screen.
