How to Use Dish TV on a Vizio (12 Steps)
By Allen Coleman
Vizio makes high-definition LCD television sets. One source you can use to get a high-definition signal to the Vizio set is through Dish TV, also known as Dish Network. Setting up a Dish TV satellite system requires you to use an HD connection from the Dish Network receiver to the Vizio set. Dish Network has a component output and a DVI connection, and are both used to transfer an HD signal to a Vizio HD set.
Using a Component Video Connection
Step 1
Locate the video connection on the Vizio set and on the Dish TV receiver. The Component video input will have a red, green and blue input and will be marked "Component 1" on the Vizio and "Component Out" on the receiver.
Step 2
Connect the video cable to the Dish receiver. The Component output is color-coded on the receiver and on the cable. Match the red plug on the cable with the red output on the receiver, the green plug with the green output, and the blue plug with the blue output.
Step 3
Connect the video cable to the Vizio television. The Component input on the TV will have the same color coding as the receiver. Match the colors of the plugs on the cable to the color on the input on the back of the television.
Step 4
Connect the audio cable to the "Audio Out" on the Dish receiver. There will be a red and white connection on the receiver. Connect the red plug on the audio cable into the red connection, and the white plug into the white connection.
Step 5
Connect the other end of the audio cable into the red and white audio input next to the component video connection.
Step 6
Push the input button on the Vizio set until you have found the "Component 1" selection.
Using the DVI to HDMI Connection
Step 1
Locate the connection on the Dish TV receiver marked "DVI". This connection will be using a DVI to HDMI cable that will connect to the "HDMI 1" input on the back of the Vizio.
Step 2
Connect the video cable to the Dish TV receiver. Plug the larger end of the DVI to HDMI cable into the receiver's "DVI" connection. The plug will only fit one way into the connection so don't force it. If the plug doesn't fit, turn the plug around and try again.
Step 3
Connect the video cable to the Vizio television. Plug the other end of the video cable into the "HDMI 1" connection on the back of the set. Do not force the plug. If it doesn't fit easily, turn the plug around and try again.
Step 4
Connect the audio cable to the "Audio Out" on the Dish receiver. There will be a red and white connection on the receiver. Connect the red plug on the audio cable into the red connection and the white plug into the white connection.
Step 5
Connect the other end of the audio cable into the red and white connection, located next to the "HDMI 2" connection on the back of the television.
Step 6
Press the input button on the Vizio television until "HDMI 1" is selected.
