How to Use the AOL Webmail Basic Version
By Sherry Morgan
AOL Webmail Basic is an email service provided by American Global Internet Services, formally known as America Online. Webmail Basic incorporates extra features into its service, such as the ability to import contacts, forward emails from old accounts, and even automatically notifies user’s contacts of the new email address. These enhanced features allow users to transfer email services quickly, without missing important emails or losing contact information.
Read Email
Navigate to the AOL Webmail basic website and sign in using your AOL username and password. View the number of unread emails in your inbox by checking the number of messages next to the envelope on the front page.
Click the number to navigate to your inbox and read the emails. New, unread emails display in bold font, while read emails do not. Click a message to view it, and scroll down on the bottom portion of the screen to read extended emails.
Reply to emails by pressing the “Reply” button and composing a response in relation to the email. Press “Forward” and add a contact to the “To” section to send the email to another recipient. Click “Delete” to delete the email from your inbox entirely. Click “Spam” if the email contains solicitation that you did not agree to receive.
Manage Contacts
Add contacts to your AOL Webmail account by selecting “Contacts” on the left side of the screen. Transfer contacts from other email accounts by selecting the “Start Now” button. Place a check mark next to “I agree to the Terms of Service and am at least 13 years old” if this is agreeable and correct.
Press “Get Started” and type in your information for your old email account into the left side of the form, beneath “Transfer from.” Type your AOL Webmail account information into the right side of the form, beneath “Transfer to.”
Click “Next” and wait for the login information for the account information to very. Place a check mark next to “Address Book Contacts” and pick whether you want your email forwarded and your contacts notified of your new email address. Click “Next” and “Go to AOL Mail” once the next page loads.
Click “Contacts,” select the drop-down box next to “New,” and click “New Contact” to add contacts manually. Type in the contact's name and email address, and add the telephone number and a photo if you want to. Click “Create” on the top bar once the contacts information is in the form.
Send Email
Send an email by clicking the drop down box next to “Compose” on the left side of the AOL webmail homepage. Type the recipient's email address into the “To” box or select the word “To” to choose a contact from your address book.
Add words to the “Subject” box and then click on the main area of the email. Type your email and use the editing tools if desired.
Once the email is complete, click “Spelling” on the top bar to spell check the email. Select “Save Draft” to finish the email later, “Cancel” to cancel the email out, or press “Send” to send the email to the recipient.
