How to Upload Videos From a Canon Vixia HF M31 to a Mac

by Todd Bowerman

Canon’s Vixia HF M31 records videos in full HD directly to a 32 GB internal hard drive. When the time comes to edit and share those videos, you can upload them directly to your Mac computer without the need for additional software or gear. In fact, everything you need to upload videos from your Canon Vixia HF M31 to a computer running OS X is included right in the box.

Step 1

Set the camera to export mode. This mode is marked by a small camera icon with a “Play” arrow inside of it.

Step 2

Connect the Canon Vixia HF M31 to your Mac computer with the included USB sync cable.

Step 3

Open iMovie if it does not open automatically. Click “File” and select “Import.” If the first-time “HD Import Settings” box pops up, select “Large or Full.”

Step 4

Select the video you wish to import or select “Import All.” Choose a disk location in the “Save To” pop-up.

Click “OK” to import.

  • Before saving your video, you will have the opportunity to smooth camera shake and to add videos to existing events. These are purely optional and depend on your personal preferences.
