Executable (EXE) files generally are used to launch a software application or program, including installation applications and regular software programs. This type of file often is used by viruses, spyware and trojans to install themselves onto a computer system when a user clicks the icon to launch the application. Because of this issue, many websites and uploading software sites prohibit users from uploading an EXE file. The easiest way around this restriction is to insert the EXE in a ZIP or RAR file using free third-party software. The original EXE file will be inside a folder accepted by the uploading program.

Step 1

Download and install a free zipping program, if you don't already have one installed.

Step 2

Right-click on the EXE file. Choose "Add to "filename.zip" or "Add to "filename.rar." Some contextual menus require you to hold the mouse over the name of the zipping software to open a sub-menu.

Step 3

Launch the program or website with which you want to upload the file.

Step 4

Select the ZIP or RAR file as the file to upload. Press the appropriate button to begin the upload.
