How to Upgrade Dish Network
By Lee Nichols
Upgrading your service plan means you can get more out of your Dish Network. It could mean getting more channels, getting high-definition channels, getting a DVR or even an HD DVR. Upgrading your equipment can result in additional charges to your monthly bill.
Upgrade Service Plan
Log in to your Dish Network account by going to the Dish Network login page (See Resources), and enter your user name and password. Create an account if you do not already have one. Click the service package link to see the available packages.
Select a service package. Dish offers customers their choice of five service plans and the ability to add other channels such as high-definition, sports and Spanish channels at an addition cost. As of October 2010, service plans start at $24.99 per month for the first year.
Confirm your selection and log out.
Upgrade Equipment
Log in to your Dish account and click on "Equipment Upgrades" to see the upgrades for which you qualify.
Order the new equipment and agree to the contract extension. Taking advantage of Dish's low or no-cost upgrades will require that you sign a service contract agreeing to keep your service plan for up to two years.
Install the equipment when you receive it in the mail. Installation will vary depending on the equipment you order.
Tips
- The cost of new equipment depends on Dish Networks' specials in your location.
Warnings
- According to Dish Network, you must purchase a ViP series receiver to receive HD channels. There is an up-front charge for ViP receivers.
