How to Get Updates for the Nuvi 260W
By Melissa King
Garmin's Nuvi 260W is a GPS navigation device that provides turn-by-turn directions, auditory announcements of street names and a points-of-interest (POI) database that displays the location of banks, hotels, gas stations and restaurants. Garmin periodically releases updates for its products, including the Nuvi 260W, that fix issues or add functionality. These free updates can be received by downloading Garmin's WebUpdater application. This application automatically finds the latest updates and installs them on your device.
Step 1
Go to the Garmin website and download the newest version of the WebUpdater application (see Resources for a link). Install the application on your computer when the download is complete by double-clicking on the file.
Step 2
Insert a USB cable into the cable port on the 260W, then connect the other end of the cable to the computer. Open the WebUpdater application.
Step 3
Confirm that you wish to check for updates. WebUpdater searches the Garmin database for the latest updates. If an update is found, confirm that you want to download and install it.
Step 4
Disconnect the GPS from the computer when WebUpdater notifies you that the update is complete.
