By Brandi Palkoner
Since Windows XP Service Pack 2 was published in July of 2002, a variety of software updates have become available to XP users. Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all updates that are currently available for Windows XP. Released in 2004, SP3 was created to improve performance of XP and to address existing flaws in programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook. Access updates to Windows XP2002 Professional by easily downloading Windows XP Service Pack 3.
Open the Control Panel by clicking the Windows Start button.
Click on "Security" and select the Windows Update page. If you have utilized settings to automatically detect Windows updates, the available updates will be displayed on this screen.
Select "Check For Updates" from the task menu on the left side of your screen to manually search for updates.
Click on an available update to view a description of the software revisions.
Check the box next to Windows XP Service Pack 3 to select the update and click "OK".
Select "Install Updates" from the Windows Update screen within your Control Panel to automatically download and install updates to your system.
Follow prompts to reboot your computer as required.
- Windows SP3 is also available for download at the Microsoft website. However, use of the Windows Update function on your computer allows Windows to detect your current software and determine available updates.
