Updating the firmware for your Samsung Blu-ray player can often improve its performance. Samsung Blu-ray players can be updated in one of three ways: using a Wi-Fi network, using a USB flash drive, or using a disc with the update files burned to it. The amount of time it takes to install an update depends on the size of the update. If you're performing the update over a wireless connection, it also depends on the speed of that connection.

Using Wi-Fi

Remove any discs that are in the Samsung Blu-ray player and press the "Menu" button on the remote control. Select "Settings." Choose "Support" and select "Software Upgrade."

Select "By Internet." A message will appear saying the Blu-ray player is connecting to a server. If a software update is available for your Blu-ray player, it will start downloading automatically. A dialog box will appear after the upgrade file is successfully downloaded.

Select "Upgrade Now." The Blu-ray player will install the upgrade file and restart. Upon successfully booting up after restarting, the update is complete.

Using USB or Disc

Open your computer's Web browser and then navigate to the Samsung Support website (see Resources).

Enter the model number associated with your Samsung Blu-ray player in the field labeled, "Start by Entering Your Product's Model Number or Name". Click the name of your Blu-ray player in the drop-down menu that appears to open the Support screen for that specific device.

Click "See all downloads" in the Downloads section and then click the "Firmware" tab. Download the file that's associated with the upgrade you want to download.

Navigate to the location where you saved the upgrade file on your computer, right-click the file and click "Extract Here" to extract the contents of the ZIP file to a single folder.

Copy the extracted folder onto a blank USB flash drive or burn the folder to a blank disc.

Remove a disc from the Samsung Blu-ray player if one is in it and then connect the USB flash drive to the USB port on the back of the Blu-ray player. Alternatively, if you burned the contents of the ZIP file to a disc, insert that disc in the player.

Press the "Menu" button on the remote control that came with the device and select "Settings." Select "Support" and then "Software Upgrade."

Select "By USB" if you connected the USB flash drive to the player, or select "By Disc" if you inserted a disc with the upgrade file on it in the Blu-ray player. The upgrade will begin. After the upgrade is installed, the Samsung Blu-ray player will restart. Upon successfully restarting, the upgrade is complete and you can either disconnect the USB flash drive or remove the disc from the player.
