How to Update Maps on a Magellan Roadmate 1700
By Jason Taetsch
The Magellan Roadmate 1700 is a complex device that uses preinstalled maps and a global positioning satellite (GPS) system to deliver accurate directions to drivers. In order to provide the best possible guidance, the maps should be updated from time to time. Magellan GPS units use the free Magellan Content Manger utility to help owners keep their devices up to date and in good working order.
Step 1
Insert the USB cable into the mini USB port on the Magellan and connect the other end into a USB port on your computer.
Step 2
Click "Start" and point to "All Programs." Click the "Magellan" folder and choose the "Magellan Content Manager" entry.
Step 3
Click the "Update" icon in the corner of the Content Manager window. The icon looks like blue arrows circling each other. The utility will automatically check for updates for your device and will display the size of the update.
Step 4
Click the "OK" button to download the updated maps to your computer and transfer them to the device. The utility will notify you when the transfer is complete.
