How to Update a Magellan Maestro 3140

by Cameron Easey

Hand-held GPS units, such as the Magellan Maestro 3140, use a combination of satellite location technology and pre-loaded maps to direct a user to the address

entered into the device. For the GPS unit to find locations accurately, it must be updated periodically with new maps and software upgrades. Updating your Maestro 3140 GPS requires that you download and install the Magellan Content Manager first.

Go to the Magellan Content Manager web page. Click the "Download" button and click the "Save File" button to save the file to your desktop.

Double-click the "Cm_Setup_195.exe" file to install the program on your system.

Connect the Magellan GPS device to your computer with the USB connection cable.

Double-click the Magellan Content Manager icon to open the program. The Content Manager will open and display a window with the name of your GPS unit. A message appears on the screen if any updates are available.

Click the blue "Update" button in the upper left corner of the window. The confirm dialog box will appear on the screen.

Click the "Yes" button to download the update. Wait while the files are downloaded and installed on your Magellan GPS.

Click the "OK" button when the "All operations completed successfully" dialog box appears. Click the "File" drop down and select "Exit" to close the Content Manager.
