How to Update the Garmin Nuvi 200W Series
By John Smith
One of the most basic Garmin GPS units is the 200W, but it is one that can still get you where you need to go. It uses a 4.3-inch wide-screen display and utilizes Garmin's satellite mapping software. The unit itself sometimes needs updates to make sure it fixes bugs that can cause problems during use. You can also download improved maps, which Garmin offers as map updates. Both of these are downloaded and installed by Garmin's required WebUpdater utility.
Step 1
Go to the WebUpdater page and click on the download option depending on what operating system you have running (Windows or Mac).
Step 2
Click "I agree to the above terms and want to proceed to the download page," then click "Download" and save the file to your computer.
Step 3
Right-click on the WebUpdater file and click "Run as Administrator." Mac users should double-click on the file to start the installation.
Step 4
Click "Next," then check the box that says "I accept the terms in the license agreement." Click "Next" to start the install.
Step 5
Plug the min-USB cable into the back of the Nuvi 200W and connect the other end of the cable to your computer's USB port. Power up the 200W by sliding the power button to the left. The Garmin unit will show up as a removable storage device in Windows (or as a "mountable drive" on a Mac).
Step 6
Run the WebUpdater program you installed earlier and click "Next," then click "Find Device."
Step 7
Choose the 200W from the device list and click "Next."
Step 8
Choose the updates you want to install and click "Next," then check the software agreement box and click "Next" again. The updater program will automatically install the updates.
