How to Unlock Sprint Phones for Free
By Steve Gregory
Sprint wireless phones are locked to the carrier's network. The phones are hardwired to work only on the Sprint network. If you want to use your Sprint phone in a different country or with a different wireless network, you will need to unlock it using an unlock code. You can purchase an unlock code from an online company or request the code for free from Sprint. To get it from Sprint, you must meet the eligibility requirements.
Step 1
Call the Sprint Customer Service line at 888-211-5727. Ask a representative for the software unlock code for your phone. The rep will release the unlock code to you if you qualify. For example, you must be an account holder in good standing for a three-month period.
Step 2
Navigate to the "Settings" folder on the phone. On many phones, select "Menu," then scroll through the list of folders and select "Settings."
Step 3
Select "Advanced Options" or "Options," then "SIM CARD" or "SIM." Type "MPED" on the screen, then type "MEP" while holding the "Alt" key and press "2."
Step 4
Enter the unlock code when prompted. Most Sprint phones follow this or a similar procedure to enter an unlock code. Either refer to the user's manual or call the Sprint support line for the exact method.
