The Amazon Kindle line includes multiple e-reader devices and a tablet computer, called the Kindle Fire. When you put your Kindle to sleep or don't use it for an extended period, the device goes into Sleep mode. While in Sleep mode, the device is locked and you can't navigate the e-reader or tablet. All Kindle's use the power button to wake the devices from Sleep mode, but the power buttons aren't all in the same place, differing by Kindle model.

Step 1

Slide and release the power switch on the bottom of your Kindle to wake it from sleep. Sliding the switch again will put the device back to sleep.

Step 2

Look on the top of your Kindle if you cannot find the power switch on the bottom. Some models, like the Kindle DX, have the power switch on the top of the device. Operation is the same as on other Kindles, slide the switch to wake the device.

Step 3

Press the power button on the bottom of your Kindle Fire to wake it from sleep. Unlike Kindle e-readers, the Kindle Fire tablet has a power button instead of a sliding switch. If the screen is still locked, slide a finger across the screen from right to left to unlock.
