How to Uninstall Avast!

by Andy Smith

Avast! is an antivirus program that helps protect your computer from outside intrusion and harm. Three types of software are offered with the program: Free Antivirus, Pro Antivirus and Internet Security. You may feel the need to use another program after using the product and wish to remove Avast! from your computer. According to Avast!, sometimes the traditional Add/Remove method of uninstalling its software doesn't work, so the company has provided an alternate way of deleting the product.

Launch your preferred Web browser, and navigate to the product's "Uninstall Utility" page (see Resources). Click and save "aswClear5.exe" to download the utility.

Restart Windows and choose to boot under "Safe Mode" when prompted. Open the utility in its saved location.

Browse to find the program if it is not in the default folder. Click on the "Remove" button and restart Windows.
