How to Turn a .wps File into a .DOC file

by G.S. Jackson

Working with documents as part of your company's business can present problems when those documents don't open because of the file format or when they open but the text formatting is not correct. Not all documents open in a particular word-processing software. Rather than purchasing a variety of software packages and spending hundreds of dollars, you can strategically use conversion tools. In the case of Microsoft Works, an older word-processing platform that came with the Microsoft Windows operating system, you can use the free Microsoft Works-to-Word converter to convert WPS documents to Word documents.

Download and install the free Microsoft Works 6-9 Converter (see Resources).

Click "Start | All Programs | Microsoft Office | Microsoft Word." Microsoft Word will launch.

Click the "File" menu in the upper-left corner and click "Open." The Open File dialog will appear.

Select "All Files" from the File Type drop-down menu.

Navigate to the Works document you want to open and click the "Open" button. The file will open in Word.

Click the "File" menu and select "Save As."

Select "Microsoft Word Document" from the File Type drop-down menu. Click the "Save" button.
