How to Turn on Text to Speech on a Kindle
By Matt Skaggs
The Amazon Kindle is an e-reader that allows you to read books, magazines, newspapers, PDFs and many other types of text-based documents. Additionally, the Kindle has a Text-to-Speech feature that lets you listen to an automated voice read the document aloud. Starting Text-to-Speech only requires a few steps, and you can even adjust options to the reading rate and voice to meet your preferences.
Step 1
Open whatever document you wish to hear read aloud. You navigate to the documents on your Kindle by pressing the "Home" button and then selecting the document with the five-way button. The "Home" button is two buttons to the right of the spacebar, and the five-way button is the large square button to the right of the keyboard.
Step 2
Press the "Text" key. This is the button to the right of the spacebar.
Step 3
Navigate down to underline the fifth option labeled "Text-to-Speech" using the five-way button.
Step 4
Depress the five-way button to turn on Text-to-Speech.
Step 5
Wait for a moment for the Kindle to begin reading the document aloud. Plug headphones into the jack on the bottom of the Kindle if you prefer, or just use the Kindle speakers.
