How to Turn Off Microsoft ActiveSync
By Kathryn Hatter
The Microsoft ActiveSync program enables data synchronization between a computer and a handheld device, such as a smart phone. The ActiveSync program works with the Windows XP operating system--the Vista and Windows 7 operating systems use Windows Mobile Device Center for synchronizing. If you encounter compatibility issues, turn off Microsoft ActiveSync on your computer to stop the automatic synchronization between your mobile device and your computer.
Find the ActiveSync icon in the Task Bar at the lower right corner of the desktop and right-click this icon.
Select "Connection Settings" from the list of options.
Remove the check marks from the left of "Allow USB connections" and "Allow connections to one of the following."
Click "OK" and the ActiveSync program will stop working.
Replace the check marks to turn Microsoft ActiveSync back on again.
