How to Turn on the Keyboard Light on an HP Pavilion
By Melissa King
When traveling at night or attending a presentation in a dark room, you may find it difficult to see your laptop's keyboard. Select HP Pavilion models feature a backlight beneath the keyboard that illuminates each key. These models usually display a lighted keyboard icon on the left side of the space bar. With this feature enabled, you won't need to turn on the room light to type a letter, compose an email or work on a project. Depending on your laptop's model, you can activate the backlight in several ways.
Step 1
Power on your HP Pavilion and press the "F5" or "F12" key to turn on the keyboard backlight, depending on your model.
Step 2
Locate the "Fn" key next to the Windows key on the bottom-left side of the keyboard. Press the space bar while holding the "Fn" key to turn on the backlight.
Step 3
Press the dedicated backlight key if your model has one. The dedicated backlight key is marked with three dots in a horizontal line. Some models with this key include the dv6-2022er, dv6-3250us and other laptops in the dv6 series.
Tips
- The keyboard backlight drains the laptop's battery. Turn the backlight off as soon as you no longer need it.
