HTC manufactures a family of mobile devices for the Android and Windows Phone operating systems, both of which enable you to configure an email account that synchronizes your contacts wirelessly. The Windows Phone also allows you to import contact data from your SIM card but lacks the support needed to back up the data to the SIM. On an Android device, however, a number of third-party apps offer a quick backup of your contacts to the SIM card.

Step 1

Install and launch the Contact2Sim app from the Google Play Store. Allow a few moments for the app to gather your contact data.

Step 2

Tap the "Menu" button" and then select "Copy Missing to SIM." This will copy over all contacts found in your phone's memory that are not currently stored on the SIM card.

Allow a few moments for the app to copy your contacts to your SIM card.

SIM Card Manager

Step 1

Launch your contacts app on your HTC Android device. On older models, this is called "Contacts" but devices running newer versions of the Android operating system will display it as "People."

Step 2

Press the "Menu" button and tap "Import/Export."

Step 3

Tap "Export to SD Card" and tap the account containing the contacts you wish to back up to your SIM card. This app requires that you first export the contacts to the SD card and then import them to the SIM card. Allow a few moments for the transfer to process.

Step 4

Install and launch the SIM Card Manager app. Swipe your finger to the left once to enter the "Contact" tab.

Step 5

Press the "Menu" button and tap "Import/Export."

Step 6

Tap "Import from SD Card." The app will locate any contact export files saved on your SD card. Tap the most current file -- by default, your phone will save exported lists with the export date in the file name.

Tap "OK" to acknowledge your intention to import and allow the app to process your SIM card backup. This can take several minutes if you have a large number of contacts to transfer.

Copy to SIM Card

Step 1

Install and launch the Copy to SIM Card app from the Google Play Store. Tap the "Contacts on Phone" tab to view all contacts.

Step 2

Tap "Select All" to back up all contacts or place a check next to individual contacts to select specific ones for backup.

Press the "Menu" button and then select "Copy Selected" or "Copy All Phone Contacts" to transfer the data to your SIM card.

  • Information in this article applies to HTC devices running at least Android 2.2 or the Windows Phone 7 operating systems. It may vary slightly or significantly with other versions or products.

  • If you have a large number of contacts, SIM card contact management is an ineffective method because it typically limits you to 250 stored contacts. Wireless syncing -- via Gmail on an Android phone or a Microsoft account on a Windows phone -- facilitates the backup of unlimited contacts. It also pushes the data to all devices synchronized with the same account. For example, you can log in to your account from your computer's Web browser to access, modify and transfer the contact information stored on your HTC device.
