In a world of digital music, plenty of songs are still sitting on CDs. Whether it's an old collection you never digitized or an album you bought at a concert, all you need to get the songs onto your iPad is the iTunes software you use to manage the device. Apple's software can import songs from the CD into your music library, which you can in turn sync to your iPad.

Step 1

Open iTunes on your computer.

Step 2

Insert the CD into your optical drive, then click "Yes" in the pop-up window that appears asking if you want to import music from the CD. ITunes imports the music.

Step 3

Connect your iPad to your computer, using the cable that came with the iPad. Click on the icon for the iPad in the upper-right corner of the iTunes window.

Step 4

Click on the "Music" tab on the next screen, then check the box next to the artist, album or playlist containing the music you imported.

Step 5

Click the "Sync" button at the bottom of the screen to copy the songs onto your iPad.
