How to Sign Up for Facebook Without Using a Number
By Nicholas Smith
When signing up for a Facebook account on a mobile device, you are asked to enter your mobile phone number. Registering with a phone number increases the risk that your personal information will be exposed. Without properly configuring your account's security settings, users will be able to view your personal phone number on your profile and find your Facebook account by entering your phone number into Facebook's search feature. Protect yourself against this privacy risk by registering for Facebook with an email address, rather than your personal phone number.
Register on a Mobile Device
Step 1
Browse to "m.facebook.com" and click "Create New Account."
Step 2
Enter your first and last name, birthday, gender and password in the appropriate fields. Enter your email address instead of your phone number in the field labeled "Email or Phone."
Step 3
Click "Sign Up" to create the account.
Step 4
Check the email account that you entered and click on the confirmation link to complete the account's creation.
