How to Set Up Voice Mail With Verizon Wirelessby Patrick Nelson
Verizon’s voice mail service accepts messages for you when you are busy, or just don’t want to answer the phone. The basic service will record up to 20 messages, with a three-minute maximum per message. The messages are held for 21 days, after which they are deleted automatically. Voice mail is usually included when you first activate your service, and you can check to see that you have voice mail from the “My Verizon” account area on the Verizon website. Once you have established you have voice mail on your account, you can set it up by programming it.
Press “*86” and then “Send” from your phone on Verizon’s network. “86” are the characters “VM” using the alpha-keys. Then enter your wireless phone number. Press “#” when you hear the greeting. Follow the prompts to set up your password, greeting and mailbox options and then end the call when you’re done.

Rerecord your greeting by choosing “Personal Options,” which is the number “4” key. Options include notification options and other greetings like “Extended Absence.” Follow the voice prompts to navigate through the tiered system.
Verify your voice-mail indicator is working by accessing your voice mail and pressing the number “4” key. Press “1” to toggle the message-waiting indicator on or off. Listen to the announcement that tells you how it’s set.
