Comcast broadband Internet comes via the modem leased to you by the company. This setup permits you to use just one computer with the Comcast modem. To connect multiple computers to the Internet at your home, you must use a router device. The router directly connects to the modem and then delivers the signals to any number of computers. Linksys WRT54G is a popular router model that offers reliable connection and supports both cable and wireless (Wi-Fi) Internet.

Step 1

Connect a network cable from the Comcast modem to the "Internet" port on the back of the Linksys router.

Step 2

Connect the Ethernet port of the router to the Ethernet port of your computer using the other network cable.

Step 3

Open a Web browser and type "192.168.1.1" in the address field. Press "Enter."

Step 4

Enter "admin" in the "User name" field as well as in the "Password" field. Click the "OK" button to enter the Linksys router setup.

Step 5

Click the drop-down box for "Internet Connection Type" and select the "Automatic Configuration - DHCP" option.

Step 6

Click the "Enable" radio button next to "DHCP Server."

Step 7

Click the "Save Settings" button to finish the router setup.
