How to Set AOL Vacation Response

Now that AOL no longer charges its members unless you want a subscription that includes technical help, many people are using AOL for their email service since it is always fast and reliable. One feature of AOL email is the vacation response setting that allows you to send an email message response when you are away. Follow these steps to set AOL vacation response.

Go online to the AOL home page (see Resources below) and click on "Settings." Then click "General."

Look at the Vacation Response section. You'll see "This message will be automatically delivered once to each person who sends you mail." Click on it and a drop-down menu will open with three messages.

Choose the message that you would like in your email response. "No vacation response" doesn't send any automatic message. You would choose this to change back to your normal setting.

Pick "I am unavailable" and the people who send you email will receive this message, but it doesn't indicate when you will return. Choose "I am away until" if you'd like to indicate when you will be returning. From the drop-down menu you can enter the date of your return.

Click on OK to confirm your choices. Note that a person will only receive one away mail message from you, even if they send you many messages. Remember to change your settings back to normal when you return.

An alternative method for those who have AOL installed on their computer is to click "Mail" on the AOL toolbar; it takes you to "Set Away Message."
