How to See How Many Messages You Have on Your iPhone
By Tyson Cliffton
If you have banners and alerts disabled for your iPhone's Messages app, the only way to know if you have unread messages is to use the badges feature. When you enable this feature, a red circle appears in the upper right corner of the Messages app indicating the number of unread messages you currently have; the circle doesn't appear if you don't have any unread messages. Enable the badges features for the Messages app through your phone's Settings app.
Step 1
Tap the "Settings" app.
Step 2
Tap "Notifications."
Step 3
Tap "Messages."
Step 4
Tap the "ON/OFF" toggle to the right of Badge App Icon to "ON" to enable the badges feature.
