How to Search Craigslist

Go to the Craigslist Web site at

Select the city you want to search. If you do not see the area listed, find the listing for the nearest big city or choose a state to search instead. Click on your selection and the site takes you the city's or state's specific page.

Choose the category you would like to search. The main categories are: community, personals, housing, items for sale, services, jobs and gigs. Each category splits into sub-categories to refine your search.

Click on the sub-category that suits your needs.

Type the name of the item or service you need into the box underneath the "Search Craigslist" title. Choose a sub-category from the pull-down if you want to narrow your search. Craigslist also has a free category. These items are free to the first person who claims them. The catch is you have to go and pick up the item from the owner.

Scroll through the list to find what you need. The items are listed by title with the item's location listed in parenthesis.

Click on the title to see the entire listing. If you are interested in an item and no contact information is available, email the person who listed the item by clicking on the email link at the beginning of the listing.
