If you love YouTube videos and want to save them to your computer to watch later, you have have probably tried to save them and experienced problems with the format not opening in your media player. The videos on sites like YouTube are formatted in Flash Video (FLV) format and must be converted to play in most media players. Unfortunately, it is not as simple as just right clicking on the file. Many websites use the Flash Video format because it makes streaming videos run smoothly with limited buffering.

Open YouTube in your browser window and locate a video you would like to save. The length of the video does not matter; it can be a few seconds to a few minutes long. It will not affect it at all.

Highlight and copy the URL in the address bar. URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator and tells the computer where the file is located on the Internet.

Open one of the video converters listed in the resources below and paste the URL in the box. Select the format you wish to save the file as such as AVI or MPEG.

Click the "download" button. It will convert the file to a compatible format for you and all you have to do then is save the file to your computer. AVI files will play in almost all types of media players.
