The Kindle is a popular e-reader from Amazon. Although the Kindle can store a large variety of e-books, there is a limit to how many books you can store at one time. You can free up space on your Kindle by deleting old files. If you purchased the books through the Kindle Store, you can download the book again for free, even if you had previously deleted it.

Step 1

Turn on your Kindle. Press the "Home" button to return to the Home Screen.

Step 2

Scroll down to highlight the file that you want to remove from your Kindle.

Press left on the five-way controller button. If the file that you are deleting was purchased through the Kindle store, you will see the option "remove from device." For all other files, you will see the option "delete." Select this option and select "ok" to confirm the deletion.

  • Books purchased through the Kindle Store can be retrieved, even if you have deleted the local file from your Kindle.
