Digital audio recorders have a hard drive or use flash memory to store data. Audio that is recorded onto a digital audio recorder is in the form of a file. This may be an MP3 or WMA audio file, depending on your model of audio recorder. Files need to be deleted from the recorder to record additional audio onto the device. However, after a file is deleted, you may still be able to recover the data if it is needed.

Click a link in the Resources section for a software recovery tool. This will take you to the download page for Recover My Files, PC Tools File Recovery, or F-Recovery.

Click the "Download" link on the page and save the file to your desktop. Double-click the downloaded file to install the program on your system.

Connect the digital voice recorder to your computer with the USB connector cable and wait for your computer to recognize the device.

Double-click the icon for "Recover My Files," "PC Tools File Recovery" or "F-Recovery" to run the program.

Select the drive letter for your digital audio recorder from a drop down box or from the list on the screen. Click the "Next" or "Scan" button to continue.

Put a check in the box for the files that you want to recover and click the "Next" or "Start" button to begin the scan.

Go to the folder or location on your system where the recovered files are stored.
