How to Restore an Old Desktop
System Restore is a feature for Windows programs that allows a user to restore the computer to a state from an earlier date. Doing so allows a user to access programs or files that may have been lost. One of the other things that can be restored to an earlier date is the computer's desktop. Using System Restore, a user can revert the desktop to an earlier state before any changes were made to it.
Click on the "Start" button on the lower-left side of the screen. Highlight "All Programs" from the Start menu.
Highlight "Accessories," then highlight "System Tools." Select the "System Restore" option.
Select "Restore my computer to an earlier time," then click "Next."
Choose the date when the desktop is in the state you desire, then click "Next."
Click "Next" one last time. The computer reboots and restores itself to the date selected.
- To undo the system restore, access System Restore through the Start menu and select "Undo my last restore."
