How to Reset Microsoft Word's Spelling & Grammar Check

If you’ve had Microsoft Word for awhile and have made many changes to the spelling and grammar check option, it’s not too late to reset them back to default if you want. Using the “Spelling and Grammar” options within Word, you can quickly restore the grammar and spelling checks back to their original settings. You will be able to start setting your proofing preferences fresh.

Step 1

Open the “Spelling and Grammar” section in Word. For Word 2003, select “Tools,” “Options” and click on the “Spelling and Grammar” tab. In Word 2007, click the Windows office button in the top left, click “Word Options” at the bottom of the menu and click “Proofing” on the left task pane.

Step 2

Click “Settings” under “Writing Style.”

Step 3

Click the “Reset All” button and then click “OK” to save the changes.
