How to Reset Volume on Laptop

by Steve Gregory

If the volume level on your laptop is too high or low you can adjust it using the Volume Mixer utility in Windows. The volume on the applications and sound devices in a Windows laptop can have different levels. This means that although the system volume level is at 100 percent, it is possible for an application's volume level to only be at 50 percent. If the volume levels are off, use the utility to reset the levels back to their appropriate volumes.

Click "Start" and then click "Control Panel."

Click "Hardware and Sound" and then click "Adjust System Volume" under "Sound." The Volume Mixer window opens.

Click the volume arrow under "Speakers" and drag it up or down to reset the system volume to previous levels on the laptop.

Click the volume arrow under "Applications" and drag it up or down to reset the volume to previous levels in the applications and other sound devices installed in Windows .

Close the window after you have reset the volume.
