If your Garmin StreetPilot GPS is freezing, locking up or failing to display map information, resetting it reboots the device's firmware, and may restore the device to a functional state. The more you use your GPS device, the greater the likelihood that it will run into common problems, so knowing how to perform a reset can be very useful. When you reset your Garmin GPS, you lose all of your saved settings and restore the device to its default settings.

Step 1

Press the "Power" button to turn off your Garmin Street Pilot, then press the "Power" button again to turn it back on. Move to the next step if it doesn't power off.

Step 2

Locate the Reset button on your GPS. On some Street Pilots, you place your thumbnail in the groove underneath the face plate and pull it to reveal the Reset button. Refer to your device's documentation if you don't know where the reset button for your model is located.

Step 3

Press the "Reset" button to reboot the GPS's hardware, then press the "Power" button to turn the device on.
