How to Reset an Encrypted Password on an iPhone

by Diana V. Faustmann

You may have several reasons to reset the password you established to encrypt your iPhone backup in iTunes. Whether your current password's been breached or you simply need a more memorable password, you can change your encryption password as straightforwardly as you set the original one.

Launch iTunes and then connect your iPhone to your computer using the cable that accompanied the iPhone.

Click your iPhone under the "Devices" listing on iTunes' left pane.

Click the "Summary" tab above the main pane on the right. Scroll down to "Encrypt iPhone backup."

Click "Change Password." Enter your old password, then enter and verify a new password. Your new encryption password will now be reset.
