How to Reset Compaq USB Ports

by John Ruiz

Every modern computer system lets you hook up devices and peripherals via USB connection. This includes Compaq computers, as HP still manufactures Compaq laptops and desktops as of March 2011. If you notice that your USB devices are no longer working when you connect them to your Compaq, but they work in other computers, your system may have a driver issue with the USB port. Before you conclude that the port is broken, you can reset your USB ports using your operating system.

Step 1

Click the "Start" menu. Type "devmgmt.msc" in the search box and press the "Enter" key.

Step 2

Scroll down to the lower section of the Device Manager and double-click "Universal Serial Bus controllers." Right-click the first item underneath "Universal Serial Bus controllers" and select "Uninstall." Repeat this step for all the other items listed to reset the other USB ports and controllers.

Unplug all of your USB devices and restart your computer. Plug your USB devices back in and see if the reset worked properly.
