How to Reset an 80GB iPod
By Jared Huizenga
From time to time your 80GB iPod Classic might freeze up on you. If this happens there are a handful of ways to remedy the problem, including resetting and restoring your iPod. If you simply want to unfreeze your iPod and get it working, the best option is for you to perform a reset on it. Resetting your iPod will essentially turn your iPod off and back on, leaving all data and information on it as it was before the freeze.
Step 1
Slide the hold switch, which is located on the top of the 80GB iPod Classic, to the right so that it is in the hold position. This will be indicated by the red that will appear to the left of the switch.
Step 2
Slide the hold switch back to the left.
Step 3
Press the "Menu" button, located at the top of the click wheel, and the "Center select" button, located in the middle of the click wheel, at the same time.
Step 4
Hold the two buttons down for approximately six to eight seconds or until the Apple logo appears on your iPod's screen.

Tips
- If this does not work, Apple suggests plugging your 80GB iPod into a power source---either the optional AC power adapter or a computer that is turned on---and repeating the process.
