How to Remove Pop-Up Ads on a Mac

Removing the annoying presence of pop-up ads on a Mac is a simple task, regardless of the type of Internet browser installed on your computer. As with most Mac software applications, the main settings to facilitate the blocking of pop-ups can be found in the Preferences section of the browser. You can achieve pop-up-free bliss on your Mac with just a few quick steps, Your Internet user experience will remain seamless as your Mac filters interfering advertisements and eliminates them from your browser.
Step 1
Open your Internet browser and go to the "Preferences" section of the program, located by clicking on the title of the program in the menu bar and selecting "Preferences" from the drop-down menu when it appears.
Step 2
Select the "Content" tab from the dialog box under "Preferences."
Step 3
Check the box next to "Block pop-up windows." Doing this will block all pop-up windows.
Step 4
Choose the "Exceptions" button to the right of the "Block pop-up windows" option if you wish to allow pop-ups from certain sites. Pop-ups may desirable from sites you approve of that use opt-in forms or video screens in a pop-up format.
Depending on your browser, you may also be able to allow pop-ups as they occur while you're surfing the Internet--without using the "Preferences" tab. With some browsers, a dialog box will appear at the top of your browser window when a pop-up tries to penetrate your screen. You can let the pop-up through by selecting the "OK" button in this dialog box.
Tips
- If you are using Safari as your Internet browser, you can skip most of the steps. Simply open the application, go to "Safari" in your menu bar and look just below the "Preferences" option for the "Block pop-up windows" option. Select this option and check will appear next to it, applying the action to your browser. Repeat this step to remove the block on pop-ups.
