How to Remove Malware on an Appleby Mario Calhoun
Although a sluggish computer may be caused by a lack of sufficient memory, your Mac computer's slow performance may be caused by malicious software (malware) attacking your system. Malware can intercept your personal information sent over the Internet, install other types of malware in the background and cause applications to malfunction. Anti-spyware software found on Mac-compatible download sites can help protect your computer by detecting and removing the malware; it can also prevent future malware attacks.
Open your Internet browser. Type "MacScan" in the search bar on Apple.com and click the link to download the software, or click the link in the Resources section of this article.
Open your "Downloads" folder and double-click the "MacScan Installer pkg" file. Click "Continue" and "Agree" to proceed with the installation.
Open your "Applications" folder. Double-click "MacScan 2" folder and "MacScan2" icon to run the application. Enter your system administrator password to authorize the application to access your files, and click "OK."
Click "Scan" and click the "Full Scan" tab. Click the "Continue" button to begin the system scan.
Check the box next to the detected malware, and click the "Isolate" button.
Click the "iAntiVirus Free Edition" link, and click "Download Now" to download the application at CNET.com, or click the link in the Resources section of this article.
Double-click "iantivirus.pkg" file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the software.
Double-click the "iAntiVirus" folder and "iAntiVirus" icon in your "Applications" folder to run the program.
Click the "Scan My Mac" button. Check the box next to "Normal Scan" and click "Start Scan." Once the scan is complete, check the boxes next to the found malware and click the "Remove Selected" button.
Using ProtectMac AntiVirus
Click the "Download" button on the ProtectMac Antivirus page at Apple.com.
Double-click the downloaded file and the "ProtectMac AntiVirus" icon to run the installer. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
Double-click the "ProtectMac AntiVirus" icon from your "Applications" folder to run the software.
Click your hard drive's icon on the sidebar. Click the "Scan" button at the top of the application window.
Click the discovered malware under the search results list to highlight it, and click the "Delete File" button.
